More About DB Secure Authenticator

DB Secure Authenticator provides customers with a two-factor authentication solution for logging into accounts and for authorising transactions. For signing transactions on Deutsche Bank’s Online and Mobile banking platforms, customers from Germany can use the photoTAN app, which can be downloaded from the app store.

The application offers four main functionalities designed to enhance security and streamline user interactions with digital banking services. The first function allows users to scan a QR code using their phone camera. Once scanned, the app provides a numeric response code that can be utilized to log into a digital banking account or to authorize specific transactions, ensuring a smooth and secure process.

The second function enables users to generate a One-Time Password (OTP) on demand. This OTP is a numeric code that can be used for secure login into a digital banking application, adding an extra layer of security by requiring a unique, time-sensitive code for access.

The third feature is the Challenge/Response system, which facilitates customer verification during phone interactions with a DB customer service agent. In this process, the agent provides an 8-digit number, which the user enters into the app. The app then generates a response code that confirms user identity, providing a secure way to verify the customer over the phone.

The fourth function involves the approval of transactions. If this feature is enabled, users receive push notifications about pending transactions. When the app is opened, transaction details are displayed, and users can authorize or decline the transactions directly within the app. This removes the need for additional QR scans or code entries during transaction approval, making the process quicker and more efficient.

Setting up the app involves securing access through either a 6-digit PIN chosen by the user during initial launch or biometric authentication methods such as fingerprint or facial recognition. After establishing the PIN or biometric method, users must activate their device for use with the app. Activation can be completed by entering a Registration ID or by scanning two QR codes via an online activation portal, ensuring that only authorized devices can access the app's features.
